Sonam Tamang
Climbing Guide · Solukhumbu Native • Igloo Himalaya Treks Nepal
"The mountains are a big part of my life in Nepal. I enjoy sharing that part of home with people who have travelled a long way to be here."
Sonam Tamang is a certified Climbing Guide at Igloo Himalaya Treks, born and raised in the heart of the Khumbu Himalaya in Solukhumbu, Nepal. With 15 years of rigorous high-altitude climbing and expedition experience, Sonam has guided more than 50 successful peak climbs across Nepal's most revered mountain peaks.
Certified as an official climbing guide by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and having completed his Class 10 education, Sonam combines instinctive mountain judgment with professional technical rope skills. His expertise encompasses all major trekking and expedition peaks of the Everest region, including Mera Peak (6,476m), Island Peak (6,189m), Lobuche East (6,119m), and the majestic granite pyramid of Ama Dablam (6,812m).
Sonam’s favourite routes to lead are Mera Peak for its expansive glacial vistas across five 8,000-metre giants, and Ama Dablam for its technical alpine beauty. He is celebrated for his patient approach with beginner and intermediate climbers—teaching them crampon footwork, ascender (jumar) safety, and rappel management with calm reassurance.
Fluent in English, Nepali, and Hindi, Sonam takes immense pride in welcoming global adventurers to his Himalayan home and ensuring every climber reaches the summit safely and returns with unforgettable memories.
The mountains are a big part of my life in Nepal. I enjoy sharing that part of home with people who have travelled a long way to be here. Standing on a summit ridge at sunrise, clipped securely to the line and watching the Himalayas light up in golden colors—that is why I climb, and that is what I love sharing with my guests.
