Trekking through Namche, Tengboche, and Dingboche was the perfect warmup. The climbing training at Lobuche Base Camp gave our team complete confidence with crampons and jumars on the fixed lines. Standing on the summit ridge of Lobuche East at 6,119 m looking straight across to Nuptse and Everest is something I will never forget. Sagar and the climbing Sherpas were world-class professionals who ensured safety every step of the way.
Lobuche Peak Climbing With Everest Base Camp — 16 Days
Approach Lobuche East through the Khumbu on this 16-day trekking and climbing journey. Walk through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche and Dingboche, with acclimatisation hikes before continuing towards Lobuche and Kala Patthar.
Key Trip Facts
Lobuche East Climbing Trip Overview
Our 16-day Lobuche East Climbing Trip follows the Khumbu trail through Namche and Dingboche before a planned Kala Patthar hike and Lobuche East attempt. Kathmandu sightseeing, two acclimatisation days and one contingency day form part of the programme. Confirm the Everest Base Camp visit and the detailed climbing arrangements with us before making your booking.
After flying to Lukla, you follow the Dudh Koshi valley through Phakding, crossing suspension bridges before climbing to Namche Bazaar. Beyond Namche, the trail follows the hillside, descends to the river and climbs again to Tengboche. Its Buddhist monastery and views of Ama Dablam make this a memorable stop. Along the route, you pass Sherpa villages where monasteries, prayer wheels and mani walls reflect the community’s Buddhist traditions.
Beyond Dingboche, the route continues through Thukla to Lobuche. The next stage combines Kala Patthar with the approach to Lobuche Base Camp. Your climbing team prepares you for the planned attempt before descending towards Pheriche. One contingency day allows flexibility around the climb, followed by a return journey through Namche Bazaar and Phakding to Lukla.
Acclimatisation days in Namche and Dingboche combine shorter hikes with additional nights at the same elevation. Lobuche East adds steep rock, snow or ice and fixed-rope climbing to the walking route. Strong fitness and suitable climbing preparation are necessary. Equipment practice supports the attempt, while your guide reviews conditions and your progress before deciding whether to continue up the mountain.
You stay in teahouses, a base-camp tent and a Kathmandu hotel. The 16-day programme covers arrival, sightseeing, the trekking and climbing stages, return travel and departure from Nepal.

Communication When Plans Change
Weather can affect Lukla flights and the climbing schedule. Our team keeps you informed, explains the available options and discusses the next steps with you, including any additional accommodation or transport costs.
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Arrival & Airport Transfer — Kathmandu, approx. 1,400 m — 3-Star Hotel Check-in & Trip Briefing
Welcome to Nepal. Our representative meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport and accompanies you to your hotel. After you settle in, we go through the trekking programme, check your essential equipment and discuss any questions you have.
Depending on your arrival time, you can explore the nearby streets of Thamel or rest after your flight. We also help with any final preparations before you leave for the Everest region.
Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour
Sightseeing & Pre-Climb Prep — Kathmandu, approx. 1,400 m — Gear Checks & Heritage Stupas
Spend the day exploring Kathmandu, with visits to temples, stupas or historic squares according to your agreed sightseeing programme. The city offers another perspective before entering the Khumbu.
Confirm the sightseeing stops, transport, entry fees and guide arrangements in your quotation. Leave time to check trekking and climbing equipment, organise agreed rentals and discuss the next day’s flight arrangements with our team before returning to your hotel.
Day 3: Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding
Lukla Mountain Flight & Trek — Phakding, 2,610 m — 3–4 Hours / 8 km Dudh Koshi Valley
Your mountain journey begins with a flight to Lukla at 2,860 m. Depending on airline operations and the season, the flight may depart from Kathmandu or Manthali Airport in Ramechhap.
After landing, you meet your trekking team and begin walking towards Phakding. The trail passes village homes, prayer wheels and forested slopes, with downhill stretches and shorter climbs along the way. Sections follow the Dudh Koshi River, introducing you to the valley you will explore over the coming days. We spend the night in Phakding.
Day 4: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar
Sagarmatha National Park Climb — Namche Bazaar, 3,440 m — 5–6 Hours / 10–11 km Trading Hub
We follow the Dudh Koshi through villages and pine forests, passing Benkar and Monjo before entering Sagarmatha National Park. Your guide handles the permit checks along the route.
Suspension bridges connect the valley trails, followed by a sustained uphill walk towards Namche. This final climb is the most demanding part of the day, so we allow time for breaks. Namche’s shops, lodges and houses spread across the hillside, making it an important trading town and a useful place to spend the next two nights.
Day 5: Acclimatisation Day in Namche Bazaar
Acclimatisation & Panoramic Hike — Namche Bazaar, 3,440 m — Viewpoint Hike to Hotel Everest View (3,880 m)
We stay another night in Namche and take a shorter hike above the town. A usual option is the trail towards Hotel Everest View, where clear weather offers views of Everest and nearby peaks.
Your guide chooses the walk according to conditions and how the group is feeling. Afterwards, we return to Namche for the night. The afternoon gives you time to rest, visit the shops or stop at a café before continuing towards Tengboche tomorrow.
Day 6: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
Scenic Ridge & Valley Descent — Tengboche, approx. 3,860 m — 5–6 Hours / 10–11 km Buddhist Monastery
Leaving Namche, we follow the hillside trail before descending towards Phunki Tenga. Mountain views accompany sections of the walk, while the river marks the low point before the climb to Tengboche.
The uphill trail passes through pine and rhododendron forest. Once we reach the village, you can settle into the teahouse and explore the surroundings. Tengboche’s Buddhist monastery stands against the mountain backdrop of Ama Dablam. If it is open to visitors, your guide explains the visiting customs before you enter.
Day 7: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche
Forest Descent & Alpine Ascent — Dingboche, 4,410 m — 5–6 Hours / 11–12 km Imja Valley Lodge
We descend through forest towards Debuche, cross the Imja Khola and continue through Pangboche. As the route gains height, the trees become fewer and the valley opens into slopes with low vegetation and stone buildings.
The trail passes Somare before reaching Dingboche in the Imja Valley. Today brings a noticeable gain in sleeping altitude, so we keep a steady pace throughout the walk. After checking into your teahouse, the remaining afternoon is available for rest before tomorrow’s acclimatisation hike.
Day 8: Acclimatisation in Dingboche and Hike to Nagarjung Ri
High-Altitude Acclimatisation — Dingboche, 4,410 m — Hike towards Nagarjung Ri (approx. 5,000 m)
Our second acclimatisation day includes a hike towards Nagarjung Ri above Dingboche, followed by another night in the village. Your guide chooses the turnaround point according to conditions, your health and the group’s progress today.
The hillside gives you a broader view of Dingboche and the surrounding valley. We then return to the teahouse, leaving the afternoon for rest and preparation. Tomorrow, the route continues towards Lobuche, where the terrain becomes increasingly rocky and glacial.
Day 9: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche
Glacial Moraine & Memorial Ridge — Lobuche, approx. 4,910 m — 5–6 Hours / 8–9 km Thukla Pass
We leave Dingboche and cross open ground towards Thukla. After a break, the trail climbs more steeply to the memorial area above the village. The stone memorials commemorate climbers and Sherpas who lost their lives in the mountains.
Beyond this section, we continue beside the Khumbu Glacier towards Lobuche. Uneven ground and increasing altitude make the walking more demanding, even where the gradient eases. At the teahouse, review tomorrow’s Kala Patthar approach and climbing-camp arrangements with your guide.
Day 10: Sunrise at Kala Patthar and Trek to Lobuche Base Camp
Kala Patthar Viewpoint & Camp Approach — Lobuche Base Camp, approx. 4,950 m — Kala Patthar (5,545 m) & Tented Camp
The day combines the approach through Gorak Shep, a Kala Patthar hike and the walk towards Lobuche Base Camp. Confirm the departure time and sunrise arrangements with us beforehand. Walking at this elevation requires steady pacing, suitable clothing and preparation.
After the viewpoint hike, return towards Lobuche and continue to the agreed climbing camp. Your climbing team checks equipment and explains the techniques needed for the attempt. Confirm the camp location and preparation time before finalising this stage of your trekking and climbing programme.
Day 11: Attempt Lobuche East Summit and Descend to Pheriche
Summit Push & Long Alpine Descent — Pheriche, approx. 4,240 m — Lobuche East Summit (6,119 m) via Fixed Lines
Begin before dawn if conditions and your climbing guide’s assessment allow the attempt. The route involves steep ground, snow or ice and fixed ropes, requiring suitable equipment and concentration.
Your guide reviews the route and your progress throughout the ascent. The planned objective is Lobuche East, but reaching it is never guaranteed. Agree the summit objective, turnaround arrangements and full descent plan before leaving camp.
After the attempt, descend carefully to camp and continue towards Pheriche as planned. Conditions and progress determine the overnight stop; conserve energy for the full return journey.
Day 12: Contingency Day
Climbing Reserve & Schedule Flexibility — Contingency Location (Pheriche / High Camp) — Weather & Acclimatisation Buffer
This day allows flexibility if weather, route conditions or the group’s progress change the climbing schedule. Your guide decides how to use it. A reserve day does not guarantee that another attempt will be suitable or possible afterwards.
If the original plan holds, the day can be used for rest or adjustment of the return journey. If it is needed for climbing, confirm the subsequent descent and overnight arrangements. The return flight and departure remain dependent on progress.
Day 13: Trek to Namche Bazaar
Upper Valley Descent & Pine Forest Trails — Namche Bazaar, 3,440 m — 6–7 Hours / 20 km Return Stage
After the climbing stage, continue down the valley through Pangboche towards Tengboche when the schedule allows. Forests gradually reappear as you leave the rocky terrain of the upper Khumbu.
The day combines long descents with an uphill section after crossing the river near Phunki Tenga. From there, we follow the hillside towards Namche. Although we finish much lower than we started, this remains a long walking day. Once back in town, you have time to rest at the teahouse.
Day 14: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla
Final Trail Stage & Suspension Bridges — Lukla, 2,860 m — 6–7 Hours / 18–20 km Final Mountain Night
Our final trekking day follows the route down from Namche through Jorsalle, Monjo and Phakding. You cross familiar suspension bridges and return through the forested sections of the Dudh Koshi valley.
The approach to Lukla includes uphill stretches, so there is still some effort ahead after the main descent. On arrival, we check into the teahouse for the last night in the mountains. The evening gives you time to organise your belongings and spend time with your guide and porter team.
Day 15: Fly Back to Kathmandu
Lukla Mountain Flight & City Return — Kathmandu, approx. 1,400 m — Hotel Return & Leisure Afternoon
We prepare for the return flight from Lukla. Depending on the operating schedule, you may fly directly to Kathmandu or land at Manthali Airport and continue by road.
After reaching your hotel, the remaining time is available for rest, shopping or exploring nearby streets. Check your luggage and onward travel arrangements before tomorrow’s departure. Flight timing remains dependent on the weather, airline operations and the return schedule.
Day 16: Departure from Kathmandu
International Departure & Airport Transfer — Kathmandu Departure — Final Farewell & Tribhuvan Airport Transfer
Your 16-day Lobuche East Climbing Trip ends today. After breakfast, you prepare for your onward journey. Depending on your departure time, there may be an opportunity for a final walk nearby before leaving the hotel.
Our representative accompanies you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure.

1. Trek Difficulty and Fitness
The Lobuche East Climbing Trip combines consecutive trekking days with a technical summit attempt above 6,000 metres. Expect steep rock, snow or ice and fixed-rope sections. The planned return to Pheriche adds a substantial descent after climbing, so endurance and concentration are essential throughout the day.
Previous mountain experience is valuable. Discuss your trekking background and climbing skills with us beforehand, including any practice needed with crampons and ropes.
Build endurance through hill walks and longer days carrying a daypack. Add strength work and practise using your boots and layers. Develop climbing skills before travelling, then review equipment and techniques with your guide before attempting the summit.
2. Altitude and Acclimatisation
Our itinerary includes acclimatisation days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche. These give you time to adjust before continuing higher, but altitude illness can still affect you, regardless of fitness.
Tell your guide immediately about headaches, nausea, dizziness or unusual fatigue. Do not continue to a higher sleeping altitude while experiencing symptoms of altitude illness. If symptoms worsen despite resting at the same elevation, descent is necessary. Attempting the summit must remain secondary to your health.
3. Medical Conditions and Travel Insurance
If you have an existing medical condition, seek advice from a healthcare professional familiar with high-altitude travel before booking. Discuss your planned route and any medicines you take.
Arrange insurance covering trekking and Lobuche East mountaineering to approximately 6,119 metres, including fixed ropes, snow, ice, medical treatment and emergency evacuation. Check activity exclusions, altitude limits, excess charges and the insurer’s assistance procedure. Carry policy details and emergency contacts throughout the journey.
4. Accommodation and Room Facilities
You have three planned Kathmandu hotel nights, teahouses along the approach and a tented night at Lobuche Base Camp. The contingency-night location depends on the climbing schedule; confirm accommodation before booking.
Attached bathrooms are included at Phakding, Namche and Lukla. Higher lodges offer simpler rooms, while climbing camp uses tents. Confirm room and tent sharing, bedding and facilities before departure. Nights can be cold, including inside your accommodation.
5. Food and Dietary Requirements
Mountain meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner, three cups of tea or coffee daily and seasonal fruit after dinner during trekking stages.
Tell us about allergies or dietary requirements before booking so we can discuss what can be arranged along the route. Explain any strict requirements clearly, including concerns about shared cooking equipment.
6. Drinking Water
Carry reusable bottles and drink boiled or appropriately treated water. Water from a clear stream or an untreated tap may still contain germs.
Boiling is the most reliable way to kill germs. If boiling is unavailable, filtration followed by disinfection offers broader protection than many portable filters alone. Follow the instructions for your treatment equipment or tablets.
7. Guide and Porter Support
An English-speaking trekking guide and porters support the approach. Your climbing team provides instruction and route guidance. Confirm climbing-guide qualifications, staffing, porter allocation and any equipment charges with us before finalising your booking.
8. Showers, Charging and Communication
Attached bathrooms are included in Phakding, Namche and Lukla. Confirm shower, charging and Wi-Fi allowances before departure. Laundry and phone calls are personal expenses. Facilities vary, while mobile reception and internet connections can be unreliable. Carry a power bank and prepare for periods without reliable contact.
9. Permits and Documents
We arrange the Lobuche East climbing permit, national park permit and local entry fee. Carry your passport, insurance details and copies of important documents. Confirm any additional paperwork before departure; your Nepal visa remains your responsibility.
10. Flight Delays and Extra Time
Lukla flights can be delayed or cancelled because of weather. During peak periods, flights may use Manthali Airport in Ramechhap, requiring a road transfer.
Your return flight is on Day 15, before departure on Day 16. The mountain contingency day does not guarantee protection against Lukla flight delays.
Altitude Profile of the Lobuche East Climbing Trip
Overnight stops rise through Namche, Tengboche and Dingboche to Lobuche and the listed base camp. The summit attempt reaches higher before the planned descent to Pheriche. Confirm the camp location and reserve-night arrangements; these determine the sleeping profile if the climbing schedule changes during travel.
Higher Places You Visit
Around 3,880 m, followed by a return to Namche Bazaar for acclimatisation.
Turnaround height depends on conditions and health; return to Dingboche afterwards.
Approximately 5,545 m; confirm sunrise approach and onward route to climbing camp.
Approximately 6,119 m; a conditional summit objective, followed by the planned descent.
Namche and Dingboche have repeated nights for acclimatisation. The summit is a daytime objective; camp and contingency-night arrangements determine the sleeping elevation during this programme.
Weather and Best Time for the Lobuche East Climbing Trip
Spring, from March to May, and autumn, from September to November, are the main planning seasons for the Lobuche East Climbing Trip. Lower forest trails and higher climbing slopes have different conditions. Your guide assesses snow, ice, wind and weather before the summit attempt.
Interactive Temperature & Climate Visualizer
Explore daily temperature variation along the Lobuche Peak climbing route or view month-to-month regional averages. Toggle between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).
| Season | Months | Day Temp (Lower / High) | Night Temp (Camp) | What to Expect & Summit Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | March–May | 12°C to 18°C (Lower) / 2°C to 8°C (High) | -5°C to -12°C (Base Camp) | Lower trails become warmer, with rhododendrons on forested sections. March can retain winter snow, while April and May offer longer daylight. Snowfall and changing snow or ice conditions remain possible around Lobuche East. |
| Autumn | September–November | 10°C to 16°C (Lower) / 0°C to 6°C (High) | -8°C to -15°C (Base Camp) | Early September can retain monsoon cloud and rain. October and November often offer clearer mountain mornings, with colder nights as the season progresses. Snow or ice can affect both walking and climbing. |
| Winter | December–February | 5°C to 10°C (Lower) / -5°C to 0°C (High) | -18°C to -25°C (Base Camp) | Severe cold, shorter daylight and possible deep snow make the approach and climb harder. Confirm camp operation and summit conditions with your guide; clear skies do not establish suitable climbing conditions. |
| Monsoon | June–August, sometimes extending into September | 15°C to 22°C (Lower) / 5°C to 12°C (High) | 0°C to -4°C (Base Camp) | Rain affects lower trails, while cloud and changing snow or ice conditions complicate the climb. Poor visibility can disrupt Lukla flights and reduce opportunities for the planned summit attempt. |
These are seasonal patterns; conditions can vary from year to year and during an individual climb.
How Weather Changes Along the Route
Elevation-driven temperature drops and micro-climates as you journey from Lukla to Lobuche East Summit (6,119 m).
Lower Trails (Phakding & Namche Bazaar)
Phakding and Namche can feel warm in sunshine. The upper Khumbu, base camp and climbing route are colder, especially after sunset. The summit attempt starts before dawn, when exposure increases.
High Camp & Summit Slopes (Lobuche East)
The summit attempt begins in darkness, when temperatures can be well below freezing. Wind increases exposure on the upper slopes. Use suitable mountaineering boots, insulated gloves and layers, with equipment checked before departure and again before the planned climb.
Which Season Should You Choose?
Choose spring or autumn after discussing your experience, dates and current climbing conditions with us. Spring offers longer daylight and warming lower trails; autumn often brings clear mountain mornings. Winter and monsoon attempts require flexibility, preparation and careful route assessment.
Choose Spring for Longer Days & Warming Trails
Spring offers longer daylight and warming lower trails. Lower forested trails feature blooming rhododendrons, while higher elevations enjoy progressively milder climbing windows toward May.
Choose Autumn for Clear Mountain Mornings
Autumn often brings clear mountain mornings. October and November provide exceptionally stable weather, crisp skies, and outstanding summit visibility across the Everest giants.

Lobuche East Climbing Trip FAQs
General & Route
Discuss your experience and preparation with us before booking. Lobuche East requires strong fitness and the ability to use mountaineering equipment under guidance. Previous mountain experience and technical practice help you prepare; camp instruction cannot replace that preparation.
The summit objective is Lobuche East at approximately 6,119 metres. Kala Patthar reaches approximately 5,545 metres. The listed base camp is around 4,950 metres; confirm the actual climbing camp and contingency-night location before assessing overnight elevations.
The package name includes Everest Base Camp, but a visit is not assigned to a specific day. Confirm the visit and any changes needed to the route with us before booking; it should not be assumed.
Confirm the overnight stop and departure plan with us. Kala Patthar is approached through Gorak Shep, while the previous night is listed at Lobuche. The complete hike, sunrise timing and onward journey to climbing camp need an agreed plan.
They usually include a shorter hike above Namche Bazaar or Dingboche, followed by a return to the same village to sleep. Your guide adjusts the hike according to conditions and how the group is feeling.
No. Good fitness helps with the walking demands, but it does not prevent altitude illness. Fit and experienced trekkers can also become unwell. Follow the acclimatisation schedule and report symptoms immediately instead of assuming fitness will protect you.
Tell your guide immediately about headaches, nausea, dizziness or unusual fatigue. Do not ascend to a higher sleeping altitude while experiencing symptoms of altitude illness. If symptoms worsen despite rest at the same elevation, descent is necessary.
Porters carry your main trekking luggage. Confirm the allocation and allowance before departure. You carry your daypack containing water, weather protection, medicines and other daily essentials. Keep your passport, money, valuables and documents with you.
Personal mountaineering boots, crampons, a harness, helmet, ice axe and rope devices need separate arrangements. We provide loan sleeping bags, down jackets and duffel bags. Confirm personal equipment, rental costs, compatibility and fit with us before departure.
Send us your dates to discuss possible group or private arrangements. A solo price is not published. We will confirm availability, climbing support, porter allocation and a written quotation for your planned sixteen-day programme beforehand.
Check your policy. Cover must include Lobuche East mountaineering to approximately 6,119 metres, fixed ropes, snow, ice, medical treatment and emergency evacuation. Trekking cover may exclude climbing or stop below the summit altitude, so confirm with your insurer.
Day 12 provides contingency time around the climb. Your guide decides whether to wait, change the plan or descend. Using this day can alter overnight stops and the return journey. It does not guarantee a second attempt or flight protection.
