Our Everest Base Camp Luxury Trek (14 Days) with Igloo Himalaya Treks exceeded every expectation. Having warm beds, private en-suite bathrooms, electric heated blankets, and delicious hearty meals at Phakding and Namche after flying into Lukla gave us an incredible boost. The two built-in acclimatisation days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche were paced perfectly by our guide Sagar Gurung. Even though higher up in Gorak Shep accommodations are traditional mountain teahouses, the -20°C down sleeping bags provided by Igloo kept us toasty all night. Reaching Base Camp (5,364 m) and watching sunrise over Mount Everest from Kala Patthar (5,545 m) was a once-in-a-lifetime triumph!
Everest Base Camp Luxury Trek — 14 Days
Follow the Everest Base Camp trail with five-star stays in Kathmandu and premium lodges at selected lower Khumbu village stops. Our 14-day Everest Base Camp Luxury Trek visits Namche, Debuche and Dingboche before continuing to Base Camp and Kala Patthar. Two acclimatisation days allow time at the same sleeping altitude. Higher on the route, expect simpler lodges with shared bathrooms, cold nights and demanding uphill walking. Return through Pheriche and Namche before the final trek to Lukla.
Key Trip Facts
Luxury Base Camp Trek Overview
Our 14-day Everest Base Camp Luxury Trek combines the Khumbu route with upgraded stays where available. Two nights in a five-star Kathmandu hotel and five nights in premium lodges at Phakding, Namche and Lukla frame the higher trekking stages. You visit Everest Base Camp and hike to Kala Patthar before returning through Pheriche and Namche.
After flying to Lukla, follow the Dudh Koshi valley through Phakding, crossing suspension bridges before climbing to Namche Bazaar. Beyond Namche, the hillside trail descends to the river and climbs to Tengboche, known for its Buddhist monastery and views of Ama Dablam. Continue down through forest to Debuche for the night. Sherpa village homes, prayer wheels and mani walls reflect the Buddhist traditions of communities along the route.
As you gain altitude, forested paths give way to open slopes and increasingly rocky ground. You continue through Dingboche and Lobuche to Gorak Shep, your overnight base for visiting Everest Base Camp. The following day, you hike to Kala Patthar before descending to Pheriche. The return journey takes you through Namche and back to Lukla.
We include acclimatisation days in both Namche and Dingboche. These combine shorter hikes with another night at the same elevation, allowing time to adjust before continuing higher. You’ll still need to prepare for several consecutive walking days, steep climbs and uneven trails. Technical climbing skills are not required, but the altitude and sustained physical effort make this a demanding trek.
You stay in Kathmandu for two nights, premium lodges for five nights and simpler mountain lodges for six nights. The programme covers arrival, trekking, return travel and departure.

Communication When Plans Change
Weather can affect Lukla flights and the trekking schedule. Our team keeps you informed, explains the available options and discusses the next steps with you, including any additional accommodation or transport costs.
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Arrival & Airport Transfer — Kathmandu, around 1,400 m — 5-Star Hotel Check-in
Welcome to Nepal. Our representative meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport and accompanies you to your hotel. After you settle in, we go through the trekking programme, check your essential equipment and discuss any questions you have.
Depending on your arrival time, you can explore the nearby streets of Thamel or rest after your flight. We also help with any final preparations before you leave for the Everest region.
Day 2: Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding
Mountain Flight & Valley Walk — Phakding, 2,610 m — ~3–4 hours, ~8 km
Your mountain journey begins with a flight to Lukla at 2,860 m. Depending on airline operations and the season, the flight may depart from Kathmandu or Manthali Airport in Ramechhap.
After landing, you meet your trekking team and begin walking towards Phakding. The trail passes village homes, prayer wheels and forested slopes, with downhill stretches and shorter climbs along the way. Sections follow the Dudh Koshi River, introducing you to the valley you will explore over the coming days. We spend the night in Phakding.
Day 3: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar
Dudh Koshi Valley & Sagarmatha Ascent — Namche Bazaar, 3,440 m — ~5–6 hours, ~12 km
We follow the Dudh Koshi through villages and pine forests, passing Benkar and Monjo before entering Sagarmatha National Park. Your guide handles the permit checks along the route.
Suspension bridges connect the valley trails, followed by a sustained uphill walk towards Namche. This final climb is the most demanding part of the day, so we allow time for breaks. Namche’s shops, lodges and houses spread across the hillside, making it an important trading town and a useful place to spend the next two nights.
Day 4: Acclimatisation Day in Namche Bazaar
Acclimatisation Hike to Hotel Everest View — Namche Bazaar, 3,440 m — High Point: ~3,880 m
We stay another night in Namche and take a shorter hike above the town. A usual option is the trail towards Hotel Everest View, where clear weather offers views of Everest and nearby peaks.
Your guide chooses the walk according to conditions and how the group is feeling. Afterwards, we return to Namche for the night. The afternoon gives you time to rest, visit the shops or stop at a café before continuing towards Debuche tomorrow.
Day 5: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Debuche via Tengboche
Tengboche Monastery & Woodland Descent — Debuche, around 3,800 m — ~5–6 hours, ~12 km
Leaving Namche, we follow the hillside trail before descending towards Phunki Tenga. Mountain views accompany sections of the walk, while the river marks the low point before the climb to Tengboche.
The climb to Tengboche passes through pine and rhododendron forest. If the monastery is open, your guide explains visiting customs before you enter. We then descend through woodland to Debuche, where we spend the night in a mountain lodge. Your lodge provides a room with shared toilets and bathroom facilities.
Day 6: Trek from Debuche to Dingboche
Imja Khola Valley & Alpine Scrub — Dingboche, 4,410 m — ~5–6 hours, ~11 km
From Debuche, walk through forest and cross the Imja Khola before continuing through Pangboche. As the route gains height, the trees become fewer and the valley opens into slopes with low vegetation and stone buildings.
The trail passes Somare before reaching Dingboche in the Imja Valley. Today brings a noticeable gain in sleeping altitude, so we keep a steady pace throughout the walk. After checking into your teahouse, the remaining afternoon is available for rest before tomorrow’s acclimatisation hike.
Day 7: Acclimatisation Day in Dingboche — Hike to Chhukung
Imja Valley Hike towards Chhukung — Dingboche, 4,410 m — High Point: ~4,730 m
Our second acclimatisation day follows the Imja Valley towards Chhukung, at around 4,730 m. This is a walking day, with a return to Dingboche afterwards so you spend another night at the same sleeping elevation.
Open slopes and mountain views accompany the valley trail, including Lhotse’s south face in clear weather. Your guide adjusts the walking pace and turnaround to the group’s condition. We return to the lodge for rest before tomorrow’s walk towards Lobuche.
Day 8: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche
Thukla Pass Memorials & Khumbu Moraine — Lobuche, around 4,910 m — ~5–6 hours, ~9 km
We leave Dingboche and cross open ground towards Thukla. After a break, the trail climbs more steeply to the memorial area above the village. The stone memorials commemorate climbers and Sherpas who lost their lives in the mountains.
Beyond this section, we continue beside the Khumbu Glacier towards Lobuche. Uneven ground and increasing altitude make the walking more demanding, even where the gradient eases. We settle into the teahouse and prepare for tomorrow’s journey to Everest Base Camp.
Day 9: Trek to Everest Base Camp and Return to Gorak Shep
Glacial Moraine & Base Camp Landmark — Gorak Shep, approx 5,164 m — Highest Point: 5,364 m
We start from Lobuche and follow the rocky trail towards Gorak Shep. After a break, we continue to Everest Base Camp, crossing uneven glacial ground along the Khumbu Glacier.
Reaching base camp brings you into the landscape used by Everest expedition teams. During the spring climbing season, tents and expedition activity may be visible. At other times, the glacier and surrounding mountains define the visit.
After spending time at base camp, we retrace the trail to Gorak Shep. Tonight’s stop puts us close to the starting point for tomorrow’s Kala Patthar hike.
Day 10: Hike to Kala Patthar and Descend to Pheriche
Kala Patthar Viewpoint & Valley Descent — Pheriche, approx 4,240 m — Highest Point: ~5,545 m
We make an early start for Kala Patthar. The climb above Gorak Shep is steep in places, and the altitude makes it demanding. In clear weather, the viewpoint offers close views of Everest, Nuptse, Pumori and the surrounding Khumbu peaks.
After the hike, we return to Gorak Shep for breakfast and continue towards Pheriche. The route passes back through Lobuche and the Thukla area before descending into the valley. It is another substantial walking day, ending with an overnight stay at a lower elevation.
Day 11: Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar
Downhill Valley Walk & Hillside Traverse — Namche Bazaar, 3,440 m — ~6–8 hours, ~20 km
We continue down the valley through Pangboche and return towards Tengboche. Forests gradually reappear as we lose altitude, bringing a change from the rocky terrain of the upper route.
The day combines long descents with an uphill section after crossing the river near Phunki Tenga. From there, we follow the hillside towards Namche. Although we finish much lower than we started, this remains a long walking day. Once back in town, you have time to rest at the lodge.
Day 12: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla
Final Suspension Bridges & Valley Trail — Lukla, 2,860 m — ~6–7 hours, ~20 km
Our final trekking day follows the route down from Namche through Jorsalle, Monjo and Phakding. You cross familiar suspension bridges and return through the forested sections of the Dudh Koshi valley.
The approach to Lukla includes uphill stretches, so there is still some effort ahead after the main descent. On arrival, we check into the lodge for the last night in the mountains. The evening gives you time to organise your belongings and spend time with your guide and porter team.
Day 13: Fly from Lukla and Return to Kathmandu
Scenic Mountain Flight & Farewell Celebration — Kathmandu, approx 1,400 m — 5-Star Hotel Stay
We prepare for the return flight from Lukla. Depending on the operating schedule, you may fly directly to Kathmandu or land at Manthali Airport and continue by road.
After reaching your hotel, the remaining time is free for rest, shopping or exploring nearby areas. We share a farewell dinner in Kathmandu, bringing the trekking programme to a close. Flight timing remains dependent on weather and airline operations.
Day 14: Departure from Kathmandu
Hotel Checkout & Private Airport Transfer — Onward International Departure
Your 14-day Luxury Base Camp Trek ends today. After breakfast, you prepare for your onward journey. Depending on your departure time, there may be an opportunity for a final walk nearby before leaving the hotel.

Read Before You Book
Before booking your Luxury Base Camp Trek, consider the daily walking, altitude and level of comfort on the route. These details will help you prepare and decide whether this itinerary suits you.
If you have any questions or need advice on preparation, feel free to email or WhatsApp our team directly.
1. Trek Difficulty and Fitness
The Luxury Base Camp Trek is physically demanding, although it does not require technical climbing skills. You will walk over steep paths, stone steps and uneven ground on consecutive days. Several stages take five to six hours, while longer days can reach eight to nine hours.
Previous hiking experience is helpful. First-time trekkers should build their endurance before departure and become comfortable walking uphill and downhill with a daypack.
Begin preparing around two to three months beforehand, allowing longer if you are starting from a low fitness level. Gradually combine regular walks, hill hikes and strength exercises. Practise in the boots you will wear on the trek.
2. Altitude and Acclimatisation
Our itinerary includes acclimatisation days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche. These give you time to adjust before continuing higher, but altitude illness can still affect you, regardless of fitness.
Tell your guide immediately about headaches, nausea, dizziness or unusual fatigue. Do not continue to a higher sleeping altitude while experiencing symptoms of altitude illness. If symptoms worsen despite resting at the same elevation, descent is necessary. Reaching Base Camp must remain secondary to your health.
3. Medical Conditions and Travel Insurance
If you have an existing medical condition, seek advice from a healthcare professional familiar with high-altitude travel before booking. Discuss your planned route and any medicines you take.
Travel insurance is compulsory for this package. Confirm that your policy covers trekking to approximately 5,545 metres, emergency helicopter evacuation and medical treatment in Nepal. Check exclusions, excess charges and the insurer’s emergency assistance procedure. Carry your policy details and emergency contact number.
4. Accommodation and Room Facilities
Your accommodation includes two nights in a five-star Kathmandu hotel, five nights in premium lodges and six nights in simpler mountain lodges. Upgraded facilities are available at selected lower trekking stops.
Debuche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorak Shep and Pheriche use lodges with shared toilets and bathrooms. Expect cold nights and fewer facilities higher on the route. Ask us about individual room arrangements, bedding and services before confirming your booking.
5. Food and Dietary Requirements
Trekking includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, with seasonal fruit and one hot drink per meal. Kathmandu includes breakfast and a farewell dinner.
Tell us about allergies or dietary requirements before booking so we can discuss what can be arranged along the route. Explain any strict requirements clearly, including concerns about shared cooking equipment.
6. Drinking Water
Carry reusable bottles. We provide water-purification tablets; follow the instructions. Use boiled or appropriately treated water when filling your bottles from lodge taps.
Boiling is the most reliable way to kill germs. If boiling is unavailable, filtration followed by disinfection offers broader protection than many portable filters alone. Follow the instructions for your treatment equipment or tablets.
7. Guide and Porter Support
A government-licensed, English-speaking guide leads the trek, with one porter shared between two trekkers. Staff wages, meals, insurance and equipment are included. Your porter carries the main luggage while you carry your daypack.
8. Showers, Charging and Communication
Premium lodges provide more facilities at selected lower stops. Showers, Wi-Fi and charging arrangements vary, particularly higher on the route. Ask us to confirm included services and charges for your lodges. Mobile reception can be unreliable; carry a power bank and allow for periods without contact.
9. Permits and Documents
We arrange Sagarmatha National Park entry, Khumbu local entry permission and TIMS documentation for the trek. Carry your passport, insurance details and copies of important documents. Your Nepal visa and additional personal documentation remain your responsibility.
10. Flight Delays and Extra Time
Lukla flights can be delayed or cancelled because of weather. During peak periods, flights may use Manthali Airport in Ramechhap, requiring a road transfer.
Allow extra time before your international departure. Additional accommodation and alternative transport may cost extra. Helicopter availability also depends on weather and operating conditions.

Weather and Best Time for the Luxury Base Camp Trek
Spring, from March to May, and autumn, from September to November, are generally the best seasons for the Luxury Base Camp Trek. Both offer favourable walking conditions and opportunities for mountain views, although cold weather, cloud and snowfall remain possible higher on the route.
Interactive Temperature & Climate Visualizer
Explore daily temperature variation along the Everest trail or view month-to-month regional averages. Toggle between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).
| Season | Months | Day Temp (Lower / High) | Night Temp (High Camp) | What to Expect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | March–May | 12°C to 18°C (Lower) / 2°C to 8°C (High) | -5°C to -10°C (High Camp) | Days gradually become warmer. March can still feel cold around Lobuche and Gorak Shep, while April usually offers a good balance of walking temperatures and visibility. May is warmer, with possible afternoon haze or cloud. |
| Autumn | September–November | 10°C to 16°C (Lower) / 0°C to 6°C (High) | -8°C to -15°C (High Camp) | Early September can retain monsoon rain. October and November generally offer clearer mountain views after the rains, with colder mornings and nights as winter approaches. |
| Winter | December–February | 5°C to 10°C (Lower) / -5°C to 2°C (High) | -15°C to -25°C (High Camp) | Clear days and quieter trails are possible, but cold, shorter daylight hours and snow or ice make the higher sections more demanding. Confirm lodge operation, and allow flexibility if snowfall affects the walking schedule. |
| Monsoon | June–August, sometimes extending into September | 16°C to 22°C (Lower) / 8°C to 12°C (High) | 0°C to -4°C (High Camp) | Rain affects the lower trail, while cloud can hide mountain views. Paths may be wet and slippery, and poor visibility can disrupt Lukla flights. |
These are seasonal patterns; conditions can vary from year to year and during an individual trek.
How Weather Changes Along the Route
